New Construction

Hudson has completed 39 newly constructed developments across a broad range of scales and construction types. Buildings have ranged from poured-in-place concrete towers to mid-rise block-and-plank buildings to two-story steel-frame houses. Hudson has also developed projects using factory-built techniques, including prefabricated panelized structural systems as well as factory-built modular homes. Hudson selects the construction method most appropriate to the building’s economics, site conditions, and neighboring uses while carefully considering the effect on design. Hudson constantly strives to improve the quality of its product in a cost-effective manner, especially with respect to improved energy efficiency, durability, and environmental quality.

Having successfully completed a wide variety of developments, Hudson is well-versed in handling sites complicated by contamination, lack of infrastructure, dense surroundings, and other challenges. Hudson is also expert in navigating complex permitting requirements involving local, state, and federal regulations. Hudson’s in-house design and construction team closely supervises contractors to ensure conformance with plans and specs and on time completion. Hudson’s successful track record has earned the confidence of lenders, investors, and government agencies. The following examples illustrate the range of Hudson’s experience:

  • At Riverwalk on Roosevelt Island, Hudson has completed six new poured-in-place concrete buildings, each of 16 stories. In connection with these buildings, Hudson had to design, get approval for and construct new roads, utilities, playing fields, and other infrastructure to serve the development. A 7th building is 21 stories and planned for occupancy in 2015.
  • Hudson used a factory-assembled panelized steel structural system at the Third + Bond condominium to build a series of eight 4 1/2-story buildings that are green, energy efficient and achieved LEED-Platinum and ENERGY STAR certifications.
  • Both steel-frame and factory-built modular construction were used at Oceanview Villas, Hudson’s affordable homeownership project. The project includes 172 units in 135 one- and two-family homes in Far Rockaway, Queens.
  • At Dumont Green, Hudson completed an eight-story block-and-plank building with 176 new affordable rental units. The project achieved EnergyStar and Enterprise Green Communities standards and includes rooftop solar photovoltaic panels.
