The Hudson Companies, DUMBO Arts Center Sponsor ‘ProJect DUMBO’

David Kramer of The Hudson Companies Inc., developer of the J Condos in DUMBO, has teamed up with the DUMBO Arts Center (DAC) to find the best local artwork to be permanently displayed at the new residential tower.

The competition, to be called “ProJect DUMBO,” is only open to artists living or working in DUMBO and offers them the opportunity to compete for cash prizes (totaling $16,000) as well as the chance to have their work permanently installed in J Condo’s three common areas — the lobby, lounge and children’s playspace.

As producer of the neighborhood’s “Annual Art Under the Bridge Festival,” DAC plays a pivotal role in the development of this thriving neighborhood and its creation as a cultural destination, according to DAC Executive Director Breda Kennedy.

“We are therefore extremely happy to collaborate with J Condo in a competition which will provide a terrific exposure opportunity for a number of young artists from DUMBO,” she said.

Said Kramer, “DUMBO is a special neighborhood, especially the vibrant arts scene that defines its unique identity. ProJect DUMBO is about supporting the artistic community and giving J Condo’s future residents a feel for its wonderful flavor through the experience of its local art.”

The finalists will be chosen by a panel of community judges which will include DAC’s Kennedy and sculptor Eleanor Alper, a future resident of J Condo.

The winners will be selected by a vote of the future residents of J Condo at an evening event when the J Condo sales office will be temporarily transformed into a Dumbo art gallery.

“This is our way of thanking DUMBO for what is J Condo’s most coveted amenity — its neighborhood,” said Kramer. “Not only is DUMBO a flourishing artistic epicenter, it boasts hip boutiques, cobblestone streets, one of the best children’s parks in the city, park and river access, David Kramer of The Hudson Companies Inc., developer of the J Condos in DUMBO, has teamed up with the DUMBO Arts Center (DAC) to find the best local artwork to be permanently displayed at the new residential tower.
